The 2012 MusicNL awards were handed out over the weekend, with a grand total of five of the awards going to Corner Brook’s favourite east coast-based synth-dance-pop group Repartee — every award they were nominated for!
Our one-take music video making friends at HeavyWeather.ca also picked up the award for Company of the Year, no doubt for helping promote so many local musicians (including Corner Brook-based folks) with beautiful sounding and beautiful looking video. Congrats also go out to our friends in The Once, who took home the award for Folk/Roots Artist or Group of the Year.
As you’ll notice, there’s no west coast representation on the list of winners below. Actually, if you look back at the list of nominees, there’s no west coast representation there either. So is there no new music happening in our neck of the woods? Or are there ways to make MusicNL more relevant on the west coast of Newfoundland?
Let us know what you think in the comments.
