Don Brownrigg – In It

January 30, 2013

Ever heard the song “In It” by Don Brownrigg? It’s a doozy.

Don is from Codroy Valley. He has been in Halifax for the last few years and has been making some pretty great music since being there. He played in Corner Brook twice last year, bringing us songs from his first album, Wander Songs. The album is fantastic and this is my favourite song on it.

“In It” is just a great song. It has a universal theme that can be applied to anyone in just about any situation. It’s about getting out there and living life without worrying too much of the repercussions. “Don’t be afraid of the world if you ain’t out there in it” is a great line that will get stuck in your head. The song gives a nod to Newfoundland music tradition without being weighed down by it. The thumping percussion and fingerpicked guitar complement each other nicely, so that its neither too slow nor too fast.

I like it.
