Hey friends, now that the smoke has settled and the dust has cleared, we thought it might be time to check in and say thanks.
First of all, WE DID IT! I don’t mean “we” in terms of Sherman Downey and The Ambiguous Case, but “we” including all of you who have supported us throughout the CBC Music Searchlight contest and beyond. It’s an easy thing to say, but in a national contest with close to 3000 acts, with a winner decided purely by online voting, we literally wouldn’t have made it out of the first round without everyone’s help. So thank you.
We aren’t quite sure what this means for us yet. I mean, we know what we receive in terms of prizes: the 20,000 dollars in Yamaha musical gear, the trip to Toronto for the CBC Music Festival, the video sessions in the CBC Studio, and a slot at the Evolve festival this summer. But we don’t know what it means in terms of our future. It’s too soon to tell.
To show gratitude for your support, I want to promise you all that we are going to make the most out of this situation. We’ve been given a fantastic opportunity, thanks largely to our community, and we want you to know that all of those votes you made weren’t in vain. We won’t waste this opportunity. We are going to take this ball and run with it. We have good people working with the band to help us make the most of it, and we are going to do our best to continue deserving your support. We’ve been paying our dues for a while now, and we feel that we have earned some of this good karma over the past few years of trials and tribulations.
But karma’s not responsible for this particular victory. This victory belongs to all of you as well, we just happen to be the ambassadors. It was a shining example of what makes our community so great. So cheers to you all. Onwards and upwards.
PS: Come see us play at Margaret Bowater Park on Saturday May 4 (or whenever it stops raining) so we can thank you in person. We’ll get started around 3pm, and it’s a free concert.
