JJ Curling wins chat with astronaut Chris Hadfield

May 15, 2013

The Canadian Space Agency just announced that after almost a year of voting, students at JJ Curling will get a chance to virtually meet astronaut Chris Hadfield.

JJ Curling has been participating in The Chris Hadfield World Tour Photo Challenge, where people and groups submitted images of themselves and Chris Hadfield (Photoshopped or with a cardboard cutout) and then invited their friends and family to vote for their image. The winner gets the chance to video chat with Chris Hadfield, now that he has returned to Earth.

The students and teachers from JJ Curling, along with Principal Brian Lowe, received 11,622, blowing away the second place winner, Dave Blaser of Georgetown, Ontario, who received 2,849 votes.

The virtual meeting with Chris Hadfield will be arranged over the coming weeks according to the astronaut’s schedule.

Col Chris Hadfield is an honest-to-goodness hero, and my daughter, Jordan, is really excited to chat with him. Both grade 6 classes at her school have just recently had a 6 day visit to Space Camp at The Cosmodome in Quebec, so I’m sure they’ll have plenty of educated questions for him. Thanks to everyone who voted!
