St. Gerard’s student becomes Mayor for a day

May 28, 2013

Grade 6 students from Corner Brook got the opportunity to be City Councillors on Monday evening, celebrating Municipal Awareness Day.

Carley May, a grade 6 student from St. Gerard’s Elementary School, was the winner of an essay contest where the students described what they would do as mayor for a day. As a result, she got to be mayor for the day! She was picked up from her school in the morning by a fire truck, got sworn into office, and even signed a proclamation for Emergency Medical Services Week.

Later in the day, Carley was joined by six other grade 6 students and together they held a mock council meeting before the real Monday evening meeting.
