Winter Carnival Events Radar: February 23 (Day 3)

We’re already on Day 3 of Corner Brook Winter Carnival after an amazing Day 2! Here’s what’s in the plans for Day 3 (including the return of the homemade bobsled races, Cook’s Quest!):

8 am to 8  pm
World’s Finest and Chatmans Bakery Provincial Figure Skating Championships

Pepsi Center Corner Brook. Come check out NL top skaters as they compete for the provincial title.  There will be various events all weekend with 200-300 skaters participating. Skaters have qualified through a previous competition to attend, and they will be competing to head to Skate Atlantica in Halifax the end of March. Cost: Free. Special Sponsor: World’s Finest & Chatmans Bakery.

12 pm to 2 pm
4th Annual Cook’s Quest

11am registration for participants. 12 noon race starts. This fun and exciting 2 person home-made bobsled race will take place on Cpl. Pinksen Memorial Drive. Registration deadline is February 19th, 2014.  Registration form and complete list of rules are available at www.cornerbrookwintercarnival.ca.   Prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place teams and a prize for the most creative bobsled. This is a great family event, with food and refreshments available on site in support of the Kinsmen Club of Corner Brook! You are invited to get a team together to race your one of a kind sled or come out to cheer the racers down the steep hill to the finish line. It is guaranteed to be an event full of excitement, laughs and community spirit!

Merchandise Bingo

All Hallows Church, Humber Road. Cost:  $5.00 extra cards $1.00. Merchandise Bingo. Excellent Prizes and canteen services available.

YMCA Zumba Fitness for Strong Kids Fundraiser 

Humber Community YMCA. Let’s enjoy an hour and half of fun as we raise money for YMCA Stong Kids. Just $10 at the door or collect donations with a pledge sheet. Call 639-9676 for more information.

10th Annual Leifling Gala

C. C. Loughlin gymnasium. The gala is open to all Corner Brook School Children for Kindergarten to Grade 6. The judges will be looking for a spirited boy or girl who loves winter, people and most of all Winter Carnival. To enter, all you need to do is make a sword, a shield and a simple costume. This year’s leifling will receive an autographed photo with Leif and an engraved Leif the Lucky statuette a special family dinner at Jungle Jim’s with Leif the Lucky plus receive a gift courtesy of Way’s Transport. To enter please call Sandra or Dave Elms at632-6045.  Leave your name and phone number. Deadline is 4pm on Friday February, 21, 2014.  Leif is looking forward to spending 10 days with his new Leifling.  It’s Leifling’s 10th Anniversary come and be a part of it!

Carnival Wing Eating Contest

Wingin It, 13 Union Street. Cost: Donation at the door. With over 93 flavours of wings to choose from. Drop by and try out your wing eating skills. Special guests to be in attendance. All monies raised at the door will be donated to the Children’s Wish Foundation. Chris Banks from K-Rock will be your host for the event. A special Thank you to K-Rock.

Not So Newly Wed

Glynmill Inn. You don’t want to miss one of the most popular events during Carnival. Join Lenny Benoit for a night of fun and laughter as he asks a variety of questions to our love birds and then be prepared for the response. Even the most innocent question can generate a hilarious answer. Admission $6.00 with Carnival Button, $7.00 without. Tickets can be purchased at the Glynmill Inn, Winter Carnival office or at the VON ask for Debbie 634-2042.
