MusicNL (the provincial music sectoral organization in Newfoundland and Labrador) is bringing their 2014 conference to Corner Brook October 23 – 26, and here are five reasons why you should participate and get involved.
1. Four days of live music in Corner Brook.
If the idea of a conference sounds boring, then you’ve never been to the MusicNL conference. The conference kicks off with the brand new City of Corner Brook MusicNL NewFound Talent Contest (Corner Brook Edition) at Corner Brook Regional High, followed by a special FACTOR/MusicNL Week Open Mic Night at The White Horse Lounge — and that’s just Thursday night.
Friday and Saturday nights feature all-ages, acoustic, and electric showcases at Corner Brook Regional High, Swirsky’s, and The Palace and feature artists like Adam Baxter, Jerry Stamp, Waterfront Fire, Neil Conway, Everglow, and Beer Patrice. Check out the full schedule here.
2. Anyone can go.
Anyone can register as a conference attendee. Registration starts at 3pm at the Glynmill Inn front lobby on Friday, October 24, 2014.
Conference registration will allow you access to everything on the schedule, but if you just want to check out some of the showcases on Friday or Saturday night you can pay at the door. PLUS some events (like the Open Mic Night or the Newfound Talent Contest on Thursday night) are free!
Here’s the breakdown:
$80.00 MusicNL members
$25.00 Showcasing Artist/Group members
3. Two full days of music industry workshops.
Saturday and Sunday (October 25 and 26) will be jam-packed with panels and workshops from music industry professionals. Featuring workshops like Live Performance: Engaging Your Audience, The Business of Music, and The Anatomy of Production, this is an easy way to gain insight into what’s what in the industry. These are open to all conference attendees.
4. The MusicNL Bell Aliant Songwriters Circle
There’s not much to say here except be there. 3 – 4:30pm, the Glynmill Inn, bringing together some of the best songwriters in the province (Sherman Downey, Don Brownrigg, Ian Foster, Danielle Smith, Steve Maloney, Len O’Neil, Mark Bragg and Brianna Gosse) in an intimate setting.
