The end of the school year approaches

You can feel the end of the school year is near at CBRH. The weather is warming up (sometimes…), students are getting restless and graduates are wondering why they’re even still at school. Yes, school will soon be out for summer here and lots of exciting things have been happening to begin the end of our year.

KONY 2012 As I See It

It seems that in a split second, Facebook newsfeeds were completely filled with friends sharing the video for KONY 2012. This controversial film went viral in no time, and it seems that everyone is caught up in the hype. I certainly was after first watching the film made by the non-profit organization Invisible Children.

The film was well made, presenting facts while pulling at your heart strings and encouraging donations to the organization in a non-overwhelming way. There has been a lot of praise for this film and the movement it is promoting, but there has also been severe backlash around the world. After wiping away some tears I shed while watching this video, taking some time to reflect, and getting some more information, I have decided my take on things.

Busy students: Singing Telegrams, Meet and Greet with the Premier and more

Students at CBRH have not stopped for a second in the last two weeks. Here is what has been keeping our students busy.

On Valentine’s Day, our CBRH Chamber Choir was running around the school and the city singing their hearts out to either thoroughly embarrassed or emotional clients. Their Valentine’s Day Singing Telegrams were a huge success, and thanks to students and members of the community alike, they were able to raise a large sum of money to go towards both our school’s choirs. Thank you to all those who purchased singing telegrams, hope you enjoyed them!

Students get comfy for the long haul of exam week

These past few weeks at Corner Brook Regional High have been pretty uneventful due the crazy amounts of studying taking place for those dreaded midterm exams of ours. You would think that you would get used to sitting in the gym for six hours after having studied for what felt like fourteen hours the night before, but even after doing it every year, it’s still pretty terrible. It sure feels good when all’s said and done though, especially for us level threes who will never have a regular midterm again. YAY!

Christmas is in the air at Corner Brook Regional High! Last Friday was our Christmas Kick-Off day, where students were invited to dress up in anything Christmas-y, whether it was a Santa hat or cute Christmas pj’s. The school was a sea of garland, red fluffy hats, and moose printed jammie pants! It was a great to see students kick off the Christmas season in their festive attire. Even Scrooge would have felt the spirit in the air!
