In today’s episode of the Dance Week CornerBrooker.com Podcast I address an issue that is very important to me – teaching dance.

In yesterday’s podcast, I mentioned that one of my favourite parts of being involved in the International Dance Day flash mob was seeing families participate in the rehearsals together. So, building on that, today’s podcast is a conversation with a mother/daughter duo in Corner Brook who both take dance classes! Jill Brown and Kate Sanders have been taking ballet and jazz classes for several years. They share some neat insights about the social and physical benefits of dance and let us know why they think dancing is important for adults and children.

Flash Mobs! They seem to be popping up everywhere lately, but in today’s Dance Week CornerBrooker.com podcast I chat with Colleen Quigley in St. John’s and Lesley Oake in Grand Falls about the International Dance Day flash mob DanceNL has been participating in for the past two years. They share their experiences with leading these flash mobs, discuss why they are a great outreach tool, and share some of their favourite flash mobs.

The Off-Broadway Players are getting ready for the 2012 Provincial Drama Festival later this month, and lucky for Corner Brook, they’re showing off latest efforts here first. This week they are bringing Terry Johnson’s “Hysteria: Or Fragments of an Analysis of an Obsessional Neurosis” to the stage of the Arts & Culture Centre.

March 2012 is National Social Work Month in Canada and as well in Newfoundland and Labrador. This year’s theme is “Social Workers: Building Relationships, Strengthening Communities & Partnering for Change”.

After recovering my bearings I take a stroll. There’s a number of clusters of people moving around the place. Clearly grandparents are carting along one or two kids with a look of unmingled joy. The joy is twofold. On one level most decent grandparents love and adore their little buggers and there’s a kind of ache of love in old age that I don’t think we’ll ever understand until it overcomes us in a wave.
