Marching for equality

Yesterday was the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia, a day established to recognized the removal of homosexuality from the International Classification of Diseases by the World Health Organization on May 17, 1990.

While events happened around the world to recognize the day, a group gathered here in Corner Brook to march from Grenfell to City Hall.

Walking for Burton

On Saturday morning about a dozen people gathered on the Majestic Lawn before walking five kilometres around town in solidarity with similar walks across the province.

The walks were to bring attention to the walk the Burton Winters took at the end of January when the 14-year-old from Makkovik got lost outside the town.

Improvements to the Corner Brook Skatepark have been a longtime coming, and now the City of Corner Brook is starting to do something about it. At last night’s City Council meeting, the Burlington, Ontario based Canadian Ramp Company was announced as the company to bring in some new equipment this spring.
