The Corner Brook Winter Carnival is just about hitting its midpoint, and I don’t know about you but I’m looking forward to some of the events this weekend including two very cool shows on Friday: Nick Hamlyn is hosting a songwriters circle early in the evening at the Backlot (which we’ll be streaming live video from – more info tomorrow!) and the Idlers are playingconcert on Friday night at The Bar Room.

Tonight is A Night for Phil

Earlier this month 20-year-old Phil McCarthy died in a car accident while living in Fort McMurray. His friends will tell you that he was an amazing musician with a huge appreciation and passion for music. Tonight, visual artists and musicians will share some of that passion in a celebration of his life.

Andrew O’Brien nominated for ECMA!

Andrew James O’Brien, the once-kinda-of-Corner Brook now based in St. John’s singer/songwriter has been nominated for an East Coast Music Award! Congrats!

The East Coast Music Association announced their 2012 award nominated earlier today, with Andrew James O’Brien nominated for Pop Recording of the Year for his album Songs for Searchers.

The RPM Challenge: Record a record in February just because you can

I know, I know — I must be crazy. You think I should what? Record a record?! In one month (a 29 day month at that)? Write and record an album (CD, record, whatever) containing at least 10 tracks or is at least 35 minutes long within the month of February — that is the RPM Challenge and the challenge I issue to you.
